McDonald's McRib

What is it about the McRib that has elevated it to a sandwich with a cult following? The media has been ablaze with excitement around the return of the sandwich in certain markets, and sightings are tracked on the McRib Locator. For those not in the know, or whom stray away from the sight of the Golden Arches, a McRib is simply a ground pork patty, literally formed into the shape of ribs, doused in barbecue sauce , laid atop pickles and onions.

Can anyone fill us in on the story behind the mystique? Perhaps it’s because the McRib vanishes off the menu, only shortly after it appears? Let us know in the comments, what you think makes the McRib so great.

lest I sound obsessed!! My husband's birthday is in August. At this point, I'm thinking of sending us all out to LA so he can get his McRib. Maybe take in some golf... Any suggestions?
Hi, The following is going to sound crazy!! I apologize and assure you it's true. My husband LOVES the McRib sandwich! Alas, here in the east it is no where to be found. He is an amazing guy who has been battling his second round of cancer, winning a battle against nicotine, working a job he's less than crazy about, raising a six-year old "spirited" girl, and dealing with the whacky ways of his wife (me). He courageously meets each of these challenges with grace. I desperately want to say thank you. I think the McRib sandwich is just the way to do it. Can you help? Can any of your readers help? Thank you for your time. Jennifer Gonzalez jennifer.gonzalez@whschools.org
  • The McRib is the culmination of three things I happen to like: BBQ sauce, pickles & onions. Aside from that, heck I'm not entirely in love. I've always had a thing for rarities even in the fast food market. Western Whopper or Rodeo Burger from BK anyone?

At any rate, lucked out when I was able to grab a McRib earlier today in LA. In summation: for me it's not entirely the McRib itself but the novelty in its present rarity.

Please, please, please.. can you get a McRib and ship to me? My husband is a DIE-HARD fan of the McRib sandwich!!! We live in CT, and I can't find them anywhere. He's battling cancer, quit smoking, grieving the untimely loss of his sister, etc. I can think of no better way of saying, "thanks for being in my life" than surprising him with one!!! I can't find any nearby (New England, New York...)! Is it at all possible for you to ship one to me? I'll certainly cover any shipping costs. Please let me know if you have other suggestions. The McRib locator has been NO help. I'm hoping to surprise him for Christmas (time's a-wastin'). Any suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated!

  • I'm actually from & live in the Philadelphia area. Managed to get the McRib in LAX on my way back to Philly... however - please do email Drew (see his comment) and we'll see what we can do actually... :)
  • Jennifer, please email Mikey and I at drdrew AT gmail.com - We are going to find your husband a McRib. And you can #BlameDrewsCancer for it.
  • I never ate a real McRib, but I swear that I've seen the frozen bags of rib shaped pork patties in the supermarket. They looks exactly the same... Maybe dunk them in bbq sauce and add the pickles / onions and see what happens.
  • I definitely know what you're talking about. However, when it comes to diehard foodies, no substitutions will suffice. All things aside, those things are good though- might have to pick some up.
  • It's been years since I had one but I only remember serious love for it. I think it is mostly the bbq sauce. I also think the limited availability has a lot to do with my fondness for it. The heart or belly wants what it cannot have.
  • I had a McRib about 3 years ago and laid in bed the rest of the day with heart palpitations.

    It was tasty though.
