Nothing says baseball like a hot dog.  So to celebrate the Phillies competing in the World Series, Paesano’s chef/owner Peter McAndrews has created an original hot dog inspired by the traditional ballpark fare, but with a “Philly Style” upgrade.  Starting with a beef hot dog with kraut and brown mustard, the dog is paired with scrapple, sharp provolone, long hots, onions, tomatoes and a fried egg.  Chef McAndrews is still playing around with the recipe, trying out little improvements to get it just right.

Known for now as “The Phanatic”, Paesano’s is soliciting name ideas from all of their customers.  Just stop in, try one, and suggest a name for the permanent menu.  A name will be selected at the conclusion of the World Series and the winner will earn a free sandwich at Paesano’s once a week for a year. Breakfast, lunch or dinner, some of the best sandwiches to eat are those slapped together in our very own kitchens. So what’s better than the obvious reward of getting to eat your creation after all of that hard labor? How about $25,000 and a trip to Napa Valley? After you pick your jaw up off the floor, check out Mezzetta’s Make That Sandwich Contest. To enter, all you need to do is type up a sandwich recipe, but it must include some type of Mezzetta product. Last years winner created a delicious sounding Spanish-style grilled cheese with prosciutto, Manchego and roasted red peppers. The best part is that the deadline isn’t until September, giving you enough time to lounge on the beach and dream up that perfect sandwich.

If making home movies is your thing, a week remains to enter the Vincent Giordano Video Chef Contest. Create a funny or clever video of the construction of a sandwich using Giordano roast beef, corn beef or pastrami with the chance to $4,000, judging will be based on originality, appearance and entertainment value.

Our favorite Philly sandwich franchise, Primo Hoagies is currently search for a new beauty to grace their PrimoDonna model team. The contest which is sponsored by WMMR, simply requires entrants to send in photos and contact info by next Friday, April 17th. The winner will not only join Primo’s promotional modeling team and travel around to events, but also jewelry from Steven Singer jewelers and a professional photo shoot from Todd Trice Photography.

Artisanal Fromagerie, Bistro and Wine Bar in New York City is well known for their impeccable selection of cheeses and use of them in sandwiches. Now, Artisanal is celebrating Grilled Cheese Month by giving you the chance to create your own grilled cheese and have it served on their menu. The winner will also receive a large gift basket of cheeses from Artisanal’s shop, a free dinner for two and photos will be posted over on Citysearch’s The Feedbag.

The contest requires you to create an original recipe and post it on the Artisanal Bistro Facebook wall. Those without Facebook can also e-mail their recipes to contests@artisanalbistro.com. The deadline to enter is next Friday, April 17th and official rules can be found here.

Tom Colicchio is a chef, restaurateur and judge on Bravo’s Top Chef, but did you know he is a sandwich aficionado? Colicchio’s ‘wichcraft sandwich shop has been a big hit in New York City, San Francisco and Las Vegas.

Today marks the release of Colicchio’s latest cookbook: “‘wichcraft: Craft a sandwich into a meal–and a meal into a sandwich”.
