When most students leave for college, they are overtaken by a feeling of independence and personal autonomy.  It feels good to be out on your own, and to start to make your own way in the world.  You no longer have a curfew so you can stay out as late as you want, and you can do your homework whenever you’d like, be it first thing in the morning or right before you afternoon class.  However, most students quickly realize that their independence and autonomy is not fully realized.  Perhaps they still get an allowance from their parents, or perhaps the dormitory they live in has a curfew or quiet hours.  The initial feelings of independence give way to the reality that they really aren’t on their own yet.  It is because of this feeling that many students start to think about living off-campus.  There are many benefits to this, although it also certainly leads to an increase in responsibility.  It is this increased responsibility that enables people to grow, create their own good habits, and live independently.  This applies to all students, even ones at Ohio State University.  Off-campus OSU apartments are a great choice for students who want to achieve this independence, as well as a variety of other reasons.

First, off-campus apartments can actually save students and/or their parents money.  Living on campus is typically more expensive than apartment would be.  Of course, this depends on the apartment, but most college kids aren’t living in a huge two-bedroom apartment.  Having an off-campus apartment also allows students to cook their own food, which also can save them a great amount of money.  School lunch plans are expensive, and often many students don’t even end up using all of the money that they have on their account.

Another reason living off-campus is great is that students get to enjoy more culture and variety.  When you live on campus, you are constantly surrounded by people who are living the same experiences as you, i.e. they are students, too.  When you live off-campus, you get to experience more culture and variety, because the people you are running into are not students, but rather professionals, young professionals, retirees, and more.  Also, there is a wider variety of things to do when you live off-campus.  In Columbus, OH, for example, the home of Ohio State University, Short North apartments are a great choice.  The Short North neighborhood offers a wide variety of art galleries, places to eat, nightlife, and is located right next to Downtown, making it easy to go to the latter and experience more of the city.  When a student lives on campus, they often feel trapped.  Getting off-campus to live in an apartment provides freedom.  In addition to Short North apartments, Downtown Columbus apartments are also a great choice for students.  Both of these areas are located close to campus as well, making it easy to live in the city while also getting to class on time.  So, if you’re a student at OSU and you want new experiences, find an off-campus apartment.
